There are several science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) professional development opportunities available for community college educators.

Scientific Literacy

Center for Astronomy Education
The Center for Astronomy Education is devoted to improving teaching and learning in general education, college-level Earth, Astronomy and Space Science by conducting fundamental research on student beliefs and reasoning difficulties related to astronomy, and instructor implementation difficulties related to teaching astronomy.  We use the results of our research to inform the development of research-validated curriculum and assessment materials for use in the Astro 101 classroom

JPL Summer Research Faculty Program
The JPL Summer Faculty Research Program provides opportunities for science, technology, mathematics and engineering (STEM) faculty to engage in research of mutual interest to the faculty member and a JPL researcher.

Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education
The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) provides short- and long-term collaborations for faculty or faculty-student teams with ORISE’s world-class science and engineering partners. Our complete catalog of faculty research programs will help you find a program that best matches your qualifications as well as your needs for a position in a specific region of the country or starting on a particular date.

Air Force Summer Faculty Fellowship Program
This program is intended for U.S. citizens or permanent residents who have an earned doctorate in science or engineering and who hold full-time science or engineering faculty positions at U.S. colleges, community colleges and universities. The duration of this summer fellowship is from 8 to 12 continuous weeks and research is performed on-site. There is a competitive weekly stipend and relocation and daily expense allowances are available.
